Glimpses of Day 1 JMUN HFS International, an IBDP Initiative

21st of April 2022 was day 1 of the Junior Model United Nations conference organized by Hiranandani Foundation School International. The Junior Model United Nations is an IBDP initiative that looks at completing all 7 objectives of IB beginning with engagement with issues of global significance, recognizing and considering the ethics of choices and actions, identifying own strengths and develop areas for growth, demonstrating that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process, showing commitment to and perseverance, and last but not least demonstrating the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. This initiative also aims to give the primary section of the school an opportunity to explore the world of MUNs at an early stage.

The opening ceremony was first on the long list of agendas for the day. Being the first in-person JMUN, the delegates as well as the organising committee filled the room with enthusiasm as our head of school, Mrs. Kalyani Patnaik, officially declared the event open.

The zenith of the principal’s speech aimed to guide the Junior Munners to view the Ukraine-Russsia war, not as spectators or commentators, but to come up with efficient, safe and unhindered productive debate on NATO sanctions. In addition, the first-time munners were asked to pen down the ideas and learnings into a journal as souvenirs. After which the delegates were escorted to their respective committee rooms with the help of the chairs and supervisors.

Even though the delegates taking part were first-time munners, every committee had an engaging moderated and unmoderated caucus, leaving only resolutions to work on the following day.

The IBDP 1 students, who organized and facilited, have been worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure that the event is a sucess and their juniors taking part in the event have a bag full of memories and experiences to take back home with them. Day 1 proved to, not only meet but also exceed everyone’s expectation, making everyone excited about the tomorrow the last and final day of this conference.
