Atlas University Visit report

Thinkers for design

On the 17th of November, the students from IB and IGCSE 10, went for a university visit to Atlas Skilltech, located in the busy locality of Kurla. The students were ecstatic and eager for the day’s events, which would lead to a deeper learning and understanding of various career choices and aligned with traits of the IB learner profile, such as being open minded and becoming knowledgeable.

The visit kicked-off with a campus tour, wherein the students got to know about the plethora of facilities available to develop the individuals’ mindsets and introduce them to unique ideologies. Following the tour, a current undergraduate student of the university, and also a former student of HFSI, shared insight on her time at Atlas. Following the enlightening interaction, the students were divided into two groups, each of which went to a different workshop. The first workshop, one on entrepreneurship, was filled with a frenzy of bubbling voices and tested the knowledge and application skills of the students with an engaging quiz about choices and situations faced by an entrepreneur.

The second workshop, the design workshop, developed the children’s thinking and creative skills. The task given was to design and construct headgear with craft materials such as paper and glue, with only an hour to display the end result. The activities in both groups invoked open-minded thinking and utilising colours and textures to the best extent possible.

With these two workshops the university visit came to end, but it left the students with a more knowledgeable and a broader perspective all in all.
