CAS Waste Segregation Report

On March 19, 2025, an engaging and insightful infographic competition on waste segregation was conducted as part of a CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) Project held by IBDP-1 students - Krishiv Chhabria, Anoushka Chakraborty, Mehek Jeelani, and Jiya Saxena. The competition featured students from Grade 8, who presented their well-researched and creatively designed infographics on the importance of appropriate waste segregation.

The event aimed to raise awareness about responsible waste disposal and the impact of improper segregation on the environment, inspired by the Afroz Shah Foundation. Students from 8A and 8B worked in teams to design visually appealing infographics that highlighted key aspects of waste management, including biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, recycling processes, and the benefits of composting, where our Head of School, Mrs. Kalyani Patnaik judged the event and provided her valuable insights. Several relevant topics were discussed, such as waste management in the cosmos, medical waste treatment, the life cycle of waste as well as waste segregation initiatives in cities such as Ahmedabad. Each team presented their infographics to the audience and explained their thought process behind the design and content, along with a proposed way forward for implementation of the same.

The event successfully enhanced the students’ understanding of waste segregation and its environmental significance. It fostered teamwork, creativity, and research skills among the participants. The best infographics will further be displayed in school corridors to spread awareness. The CAS initiative contributed to the IBDP-1 students’ experiential learning by allowing them to take on leadership roles in organizing and facilitating the event as well as provided a platform for 8th graders to think sustainably and take one step forward towards being a future changemaker!
